How to Take Screen Shots

For those of you that just want a simple solution you can use the keyboard PrintScreen key to capture ONE screen shot at a time.

When you exit JFIV you can paste the captured image (now on your Windows clipoard) into a your graphics program. Or look in the Accessories Folder for a program called Paint. MS Paint will handle your captured image fine. Example

To get a smaller file size choose FILE-SAVE-AS and save the picture as a .JPEG type file, not the .BMP This will get you a good looking image and one small enough to email easily.

To capture multiple screenshots - use a screen capture program like these:

JPEG Clipper 3.5 A Free program on the Downloads page
Easy to use - just start the program and use the Print Screen key to save screen shots from your games into the same directory/folder where the program is setup.  You can also choose from different options such as a specific directory or the first part of the file name.

There are more advanced screen capture programs like Snag-It that have even more configuration options. http://download.com.com/3000-2064-10216051.html

My Jet wont stop on runway when I land

A common (and annoying) problem for many people.  You land your plane and it just wont slow down.  The brakes don't seem to work.  Even shutting the engine off doesn't seem to help.  What you'll need to learn to do is to flare just before landing and let the jet stall just above the runway.  As long as your touchdown speed is below 100 kts the brakes should work as normal.  Its not an elegant solution, but it works.

A related problem is that often when you land to reload it wont work the FIRST time you land.  To work around that issue touchdown on the runway at 200kts lift off again and then do the flare to stall out to below 100kts and touchdown on the runway.  The 2 touch landing will get you your re-arm and re-fuel.

What are "aircraft skins"

Aircraft skins are custom "paint jobs".  Its possible to use a graphics program and change how the aircraft looks.  The skins can be "mild or wild".  Example   Custom skins DO NOT get transferred across the Internet during online games.  So don't expect the other players to notice that brand new custom paint job.  They'll be too busy trying to shoot holes in it anyway.  When you make a custom skin ALL aircraft of that type in your games have the same skin as well.  Targeting Skin; A specialized custom skin designed for close-in air-to-air dogfighting in online games.  Usually a bright skin that's easy to pick out in all the ground clutter.  Using different colored targeting skins for different aircraft can help in aircraft recognition - usually inside of 1 mile - in dogfighting conditions.  See the Tips page for info on how to make Skins

Lives exausted: Game Over

Q: Lives exausted: Game Over  Getting that message and my online game ends when I still have lives left Does anyone know why? Before when I got shot down 10 times I knew why it closed Now Im getting game over msgs with 5 or 6 or 7 lives left???

A:  That's one of the messages you can get, when: For whatever reason, you lost your connection to the host JF4 computer. It might have been your Computer, Your ISP, the Host's computer or ISP, etc. Whatever is the weak link in the game connection.

If you're the one hosting the game you maybe running into the "Frag Limit". That Frag count you can set when you start hosting a game is set to Default of 10. So when you (or someone else in the room) has "killed" 10 bandits, the game will end and you'll see that Lives exausted message. Just increase the Frag Limit and the games should last longer if you're having a good day and killin' more than you get shot down.
