Extra Lives in Multiplayer games |

Tired of getting shot down 10 times in 10 mintues and having a good game end? The host can increase the number of kills allowed in the game - for all players. Edit the jf4.ini file - In the [Frontend] section find the line that says fragLimit=10 Add a new line right below it like this: MaxDeaths=xx (where xx=new number of game lives) Then find the line in [Sim Net] section that says: Max Deaths=xx (Note this line has a blank space) Change xx to the same number of game lives you set up above in the [Frontend] section. Dont forget to change the FRAG LIMIT and KILL LIMIT too. Both these can be changed to a max of 50 in the CREATE game option by setting the FRAG LIMIT option, or editing the jf4.ini file. If you don't change the FragLimit the game will end when the first player reaches 10 kills.

Tired of Type-O-Cide? - Use Cntrl+M Taunts |

Type-o-Cide = being shot down while typing. One way you can cut down on the number of times you're shot down while typing - learn to use Multiplayer taunts. They're available on the Cntrl+M communications menu. Most useful when you broadcast certain messages over and over - such as game rules. Taunts are loaded into the Pilots ID data screen. You can edit the taunts in the Campaign menu Taunts1.jpg Taunts2.jpg If you choose you can also edit the taunts directly in the jf4.ini file in the [Sim Net] section. Once you have you taunts loaded you only need to type Cntrl+M - 2 - 1 - Enter to send your taunt/info to everyone. Taunts3.jpg Advanced users: You can create "macro" commands that will send Taunts with just one button or keystroke. If you have an extra joystick button you dont normally use, you can use your joystick software to map that button to use a taunt. TauntsMacro.jpg If you dont have a joystick button free, you can always use a Macro Program to program taunt commands to keyboard keys. Q is a good key to use, easy to find and not used by JF4 commands. |

Multiplayer Host entry option |

It's possible to vary the host players's entry point, heading, altitude and entry speed. Use the Instant Action - Free Flight option. Pick and choose the entry options you want to use in Multiplayer game in the Free Flight menu. Enter the free flight game, make sure its a good choice for the MP game and then exit (ESC-Return to Base). Now go directly to the Multiplayer menu, Create your game and the entry options you chose previously in Free Flight will be used in that multiplayer game. The host will respawn in the new location when shot down. This change is not permanent. Once you completely exit JF4 that MP mission entry point will revert to its normal setting.

Play JF4 without the CD in the CD Drive |
You can play JF4 without the CD in the computer's CD Drive. Edit the jf4.ini line skipIntro=1 in the [Frontend] section. Change the 1 to 0 and save the file. Now JF4 will play without the CD in the CD Drive. Important Note: The changed "skipIntro=0" will ALWAYS revert back to 1. This means you must change that line everytime you want to play without the CD. You can make this easier to do by putting a desktop shortcut to jf4.ini next to your JF4 game icon. You can move the skipIntro=1 line up to the top of the file, right under [Frontend] so its easy to find. Then you can easily change the 1 to 0 and save the file just before you start the game up.

How to make your own aircraft "skins" |
You'll need a graphics editor program that can handle the TARGA (Truevision Advanced Raster Graphics Adapter) .tga file formats - such as PaintShopPro. There are TWO sets of aircraft skins. One set is for 16bit FULL resolution model texture quality and one set for 16bit HALF resolution model texture quality. Check your JF4 OPTIONS - GRAPHICS settings to see which setting you have your model texture quality set on. The 16bit FULL skins are located in the \Program Files\JetFighter IV\SimData\Textures\TexFull folder. The 16bit HALF skins are in the \Program Files\JetFighter IV\SimData\Textures\TexHalf folder. The files names of aircraft skins are the same in both Textures folders:

Always create a back up folder to keep origionals of any dat file you plan to modify. Thats so you can in case you need to put things back the way they were before you started making your changes. Handy Tip: If you hold down your CNTRL key while you click and drag a file from one folder to another, you'll create a COPY rather than just move the orginal file. The .tga files for Full Texture are 256X256X16M format The .tga files for Half Texture are 128X128X64K format. Once your done adjusting or "coloring" your aircraft skins make sure they're put back in the right folder and have the right name. Then take it flying and see if you like the result.
